We were given When Dinosaurs Came with Everything by Elise Broach as a party favor and at first I thought it would only appeal to my son. A boy and his mom go on their usual Friday errands: go to the bakery, have a haircut, the usual stuff. Instead of getting a balloon, or a lollipop, the boy gets a dinosaur. Not a toy one. A real one.
I have to say, the look on the mom’s face in the illustrations by David Small is classic. And, to my surprise, my daughter likes this book too, and I think that’s because of the unexpected (and clever) reversal toward the end of the book where the mom might just decide she’s okay with dinosaurs living in the backyard.
