Good books for pre-teen girls are harder to find than I thought they’d be. Here are the ones my daughter and I love.
The Rainbow Magic series by Daisy Meadows is full of fairies, magic, and pesky goblins (led by Jack Frost). Each book introduces a new fairy whose magical objects help the world go round. But those naughty goblins always steal the magical objects and cause a lot of havoc. These are my daughter’s dream books and she especially loves the Jewel Fairies.
These are great first books, with big text and colorful illustrations.
We love pets! My daughter would love a cat or dog but we’re all allergic!
In Rebecca Johnson’s series Juliet – Nearly a Vet, Juliet is ten years old and she’s nearly a vet. She faces a range of (very sweet) dilemmas involving the care of animals, which completely draw my daughter in. Juliet is also a really refreshing change from fairies (more on those soon!).
